Sheffield to East Midlands Airport
From Pedalpushers
Long Eaton is the nearest station (about 8 miles away) to East Midlands Airport, and is served by EMT trains between St Pancras and Derby as well as trains between Derby and Nottingham, which start from as far afield as Skegness, Cardiff, Hereford and Great Malvern.
From the station, turn right under the bridge and head straight down the B6540 towards Castle Donington crossing the Trent. When you reach the A50 (T) junction, there is a cycle route signposted - however, part of it goes under the dual carriageway and can be flooded. Check it out before using it and if in doubt stay on road towards Castle Donington - use the pavements around the roundabout if necessary. On reaching Castle Donington carry straight on - don't take the left fork towards Hemingford. Go up the hill, and turn right at the top to go along the airport perimeter road - mount the shared use pavement here if you wish, you are unlikely to see any pedestrians. Passing the motor racing circuit and museum, turn left onto the shared use path at the side of the A453. - This is a busy road so take care. There is a left turn very soon signposted to the freight terminal - this gets you onto the airport roads, return to the carriageway and follow the signs to the terminal. You will notice some covered cycle parking on the left, and if you mount the pavement here and cut through you can save yourself half-a mile of car park access roads. Enjoy your trip.
