How to use these route guides:
All roads are potential cycle routes (with the exception of motorways and other roads where cycling is legally banned, like the Sheffield Parkway) However, some roads are more suitable for cycling on than others - a properly designed and maintained main road may be as safe (although not necessarily as pleasant) to cycle on as a country lane. The level of skill required toride a particular route, however, will vary, and ironically many cycle "facilities" require more skill to negotiate than does the open road.
In these route suggestions we have tried to provide a balance between a safe route, and a speedy one.
These "Frequently Requested Routes" are best used either in conjunction with the Sheffield Cycling Map or the Sheffield A-Z. The Sheffield Cycling Map is also available on paper from the Tourist Information Office. Check the route out on a map before setting off, in any case.
For advice on cycling around Sheffield you might like to take a look at Sheffield University Cycle Forum's Advice and Information for Cyclists. You should note that Sheffield's streets frequently change their street names without any apparent change in the nature of the street, and indeed any rhyme or reason whatsoever, so when we use a phrase such as " follow Leavgreave, Portobello, Trippett Lane, Pinfold St", this just means keep going straight until you reach the last road listed (or vice versa if going the other way)
Do you have a favourite route? Mail it to us! If we like it we'll put it up on the Pedalpushers Web Site . (We reserve the right to modify route suggestions, if we consider them to be unsafe or illegal. The Webmaster's decision is final.)
If you don't see the route you need, mail us for for our suggestions.
LEGAL DISCLAIMER: Pedalpushers Sheffield Cycle Campaign can take no responsibility for anything that happens whilst following any of these routes.
