Meadowhead to Sheffield City Centre
From Pedalpushers
Meadowhead to City Centre (This overlaps with Sheffield to Holmesfield & Derby)
A lot of cycle commuters just take Meadowhead and Chesterfield Rd - there's plenty of bus lane along there, and at peak time traffic is moving slowly, although care should always be taken for traffic manoeuvring. At the time of writing there are major roadworks in the Woodseats area.
A pinch point is Heeley Bottom - we recommend turning left onto Little London Rd, under the railway then immediately right onto the new track running alongside the railway, then following the signposted route. On reaching London Rd, you can use the alternative route signposted to the left at Mount Pleasant Rd - it could be worthwhile using this out of peak hours when the bus lanes aren't operating, to avoid severe congestion at the bottom of London Rd.
There's a quieter route signposted from Meadowhead - starts at Norton Lane opposite Meadowhead school, then Bunting Nook, and Warminster Rd. For a steep downhill go through Meersbrook Park (technically a dismount) to Brooklyn Rd which has a bike gate. - or use Carfield Ave (Bus Gate) - Meersbrook Rd - Albert Rd. Crossing Chesterfield Rd carefully at the bottom of Albert Rd gets you on to Saxon Rd (beware potholes) and follow the signposted routes.
A cycle route is planned through Mersbrook Park, but has been set back due to changes in the assessment procedure.
