Local Bike Shops

These are some of the bike shops in Sheffield. Pedalpushers will not recommend one shop over another as we all have different favourites. All we will say is support your LBS as much as you can or one day it may not be there

Langsett Cycles

Langsett Cycles is on Infirmary road and is reasonably close to the University of Sheffield. They have close links with the University as they provide bikes on the staff assisted purchase scheme. They are on the Supertram route but unfortunately at this moment you can’t take bikes on the Supertram, although you can drop your bike off for repairs and take the tram back into town.

Tony Butterworth’s

Tony Butterworth’s is on Catchbar lane in Hillsborough, (just behind the football ground). Known to many as just “Butties” this shop used to specialise in racing cycles, but is now an all round cycle shop with a slight bias toward racing cycles still. They'll never let you down if you need an emergency repair and have even been known to help you get back on the road when you have'nt got any money.

Tony retired some years ago and spends most of his time in Spain. The shop is now run by Chris and Paul and they will give 10% discount to pedalpushers members. Butties is another bike shop on the tram route.

JE James

JE James is near the city centre going out on Bramall Lane , close to the Sheffield United Football Ground, One half of this shop is leisure cycles and the other part specialises in expensive mountain bikes and road bikes.

Halfords

Halfords is a little way past JE James and is a large motor car accessory warehouse. It has a reasonably large cycle section that can throw up some component bargains. Halfords can be handy if you suddenly need a part at 7.30pm in the evening as it has longer opening hours than most specialist bike shops. Health note - Halfords sell equipment that allows motorists to speed without being caught. If this annoys you then maybe you should avoid this shop.

AE Butterworth’s

AE Butterworth’s is on Abbeydale road so don’t get confused with the two. This is a very traditional cycle shop, and supposedly has the best prices in town so doesn’t give any extra discount. If you are dropping your bike off, there is a bus stop over the road which will take you back into town.

JF Wilson’s

JE Wilson’s is on city road and is all about building custom racing bikes. They are also good for spares and repairs if you are based in that side of town but check the opening hours. Now have an upstairs show room for Mountain Bikes, BMX and Children’s bikes

Decathlon superstore

Decathlon superstore is close to Sheffield Hallam University on Eyre St. They sell complete bikes (some of which are their own brand) and spares (with a continental bias). They also do repairs and fit spares, although the workshop is on the opposite side of the shop to the bike area.

Other Shops with Bike Spares

Note Coles (John Lewis) no longer do bike spares and tools in their sports dept (need to check).

If you are stuck in town and need some parts try Argos, Wilkinsons or Sheffield University Students Union shop. All of these stock bike locks, tubes, repair kits and lights. Sometimes you can get bike spares at supermarkets such as Netto, Tescos and LIDL. LIDL and Aldi have themed 'weeks' announced in advance on their websites, some of which include a selection of cycling accessories; there can be some real bargains, but be warned that some people come in early on the first day of the sale to hoover up all of the decent stock to sell on eBay :-(

Sainsburys Archer Road had some bike spares the last time we were in.
