Five Weirs Walk is open except for the Thessco section, which has a damaged pergola, and the Blonk St - Cobweb Bridge - Effingham Rd section. Bailey Bridge has temporary repairs pending full repairs, although I don't know how many times the council are going to provide steel cable for scumbags to steal on these bridges. There is some silt on the paved sections so some care is needed.

The canal towpath from Rotherham to Meadowhall is washed out and probably unusable except on an MTB. I set off along it from Rotherham but gave up and took to the road. The scouring effect that the floods had is quite remarkable & the river has changed substantially - there are what look like beaches along the 5WW!

Heading East from Sheffield, the route to Rother Valley is mostly OK - but beware of broken glass. There is a diversion around the new development at Cricket Inn Rd.

Richmond Rd to Stradbroke Rd now has a sealed surface.

The former Beighton Tip area has been landscaped and the paths have been re-surfaced. In fact if you are happy on-road but prefer not to mix with inner-city traffic my preferred route is to use the NCN as far as the Mosbrough Parkway junction, then use the footpaths to Handsworth ASDA and get on Handsworth Rd, which as most traffic uses the Mosbrough Parkway these days isn't too bad, and you get a lovely downhill swoop to Rother Valley.

If you stick to the trail however, Stone Lane has been resurfaced and the access barriers at the end have been repaired, which will hopefully give this much-abused area a chance to recover.

There is a temporaray diversion at Meadowhall while a hotel is being built, disrupting access to the Chapeltown Greenway (which only reaches as fas as Ecclesfield at the moment) Sadly, the hotel bocks the view of the Meadowhall Dome as you approach from the North.

Coming down from Leeds, the Aire towpath is closed for repairs south of Woodlesford. See possible diversion
