Bradway to Sheffield City Centre

From Bradway Rd/Hemper Lane take Beauchief Drive. Next 0.5 mile is unlit and may be muddy. (Alternative route is Hemper Lane/2nd l. at roundabout Bocking Lane, then l. Abbey Lane BUT Bocking Lane at the bottom is very busy and has traffic islands which are hazardous. Better used downhill than uphill. At traffic islands you are advised to TAKE THE LANE - i.e. stay in the centre of the carriageay and do not allow motorists to squeeze past you.)

Cross Abbey Lane onto Folds Lane. Join Hutcliffe Wood Rd, Archer Lane and right through bike gate to Ulverston Rd. Turn left onto Woodseats Rd and 1st right onto Athol Rd/Little London Rd. Continue under the railway bridge. Join cycle track just before second railway bridge, running between Virgin gym and railway line. Straight on on Saxon Rd to T junction with Broadfield Rd. Straight across T junction (take great care emerging from Saxon Rd.) and join off-road cycle path opposite.

Straight up Staveley Rd. There is a handy bike gate link to Abbeydale Rd. at the top. Otherwise, 2nd right on Fieldhead Rd and across London Rd. Taking care at the three-way junction, join Asline Rd, using cycle path on RH side of carriageway. Cycle path doglegs right then left through park, then crosses Bramall Lane by JE James' cycle shop. Path turns right on Alderson Rd, then crosses by Toucan crossing to Shoreham St.

Follow Shoreham St. for 0.5 mile, use bike gate to cross St. Mary's Rd. dual carriageway at traffic lights. After junction, take 2nd left on Matilda St, then 2nd right on Arundel St. Continue to Howard St. at the entrance to Sheffield Hallam University. Turn left on red block paved cycle path signposted Peak District. Cross Arundel Gate by the Toucan crossing outside the Millennium gallery. Follow red block paving up ramp to emerge on Surrey St. outside the Central Library.

TOTAL DISTANCE 5.2 MILES

RETURN.

Reverse of above route, except that there is no turn left from Arundel St. to Matilda St. Instead, on Arundel St. turn left on Furnival St. then right on Sidney St. Rejoin Matilda St. At peak times you may prefer to use the Abbeydale Rd bus lanes.
